A little history…
The Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge has a history going back to the 16th century.
Tadpole Bridge (It took its name from Tadpole Weir) was built over the Thames in 1802 to carry the local Turnpike Road between Buckland and Bampton. At this time, the 17th Century Toll House became a busy site (especially after a wharf was built by the bridge) and so the Trout Inn was opened. It has prospered ever since, latterly because of its ‘escape it all’ location and reputation for fine food.
