About the Trout Inn - Our Style
Gareth and Helen have years of experience in hospitality and have owned and managed some of the finest country house hotels in the UK. We have previously won the AA Hotel of the Year, a Michelin Star and achieved a Cesar award for Country House Hotel of the Year at our previous property, The Painswick Hotel in Gloucestershire. Okay, our previous accolades were gained in some of Britain’s best hotels, but our heart really lies in providing hospitality and great food in a relaxed and informal setting. We grew tired of running “fine dining” restaurants and wanted to find somewhere, where we liked going out to eat too on our occasional days off. After nearly three years of searching we found our perfect location – The Trout. We have a young family and we run the Trout to be as child friendly as possible. We have a decent children’s menu (no chicken nuggets!), plenty of games/toys and plenty of space outdoors for children to play and explore. We have extra beds and cots which will fit into all our rooms. Whilst we take food seriously we don’t enjoy the label ‘Gastro-pub’. Too often we find that properties that are called gastro pubs, tend to be restaurants within a pub, with no real ales available and no desire to welcome drinkers. We positively welcome people just popping in for a pint, in fact we have a strong local following who use us every single night – they create a warm atmosphere, give us support and encouragement and have become firm friends. We have a superb team working with us and they go the ‘extra distance’ to try and make your visit to us a special one!
Our aim is simple – to build our reputation as one of Britain’s finest inns, providing exceptional bedrooms, great food, great beer and warm and caring service.
