Fishing 

Located on the banks of the River Thames, The Trout Inn has access to a beat within 100 yards. Plenty of coarse fishing such as Barbel, Chubb, Roach and Bream, there is a good head of Pike. Recent catches have seen Barbel at over 10lb.

Walking

The Thames Path
Runs alongside the Inn and offers wonderful riverside walks through some of England’s finest Countryside. The Thames gently flows through the flat flood plain of the Thames Valley; this stretch of the river is wonderfully remote and very peaceful. If you walk approximately 1¼ miles down river the path leads through “Chimney Meadows Nature Reserve”, which totals 250 hectares, consisting of nationally acclaimed wildflower meadows.

Carswell Golf and Country Club
Located just 5 minutes from the Trout Inn, this par 72 course is enjoyable and challenging for both the low handicap and less experienced golfer.

This championship standard club, located 15 minutes from The Trout Inn offers three 18 hole courses.
 
The excellent quality of the courses, both heathland and the newer “links style” course offer a challenging test of golf for the experienced golfers.
Green Fees: Midweek £65.00 Weekend £80.00. These are day rates which will allow you to play two courses. Handicap Certificate required.

Local Towns and Villages

Bampton, Oxfordshire
Located 2 miles from the Trout Inn, Bampton is one of the oldest and prettiest villages in the Cotswolds. It has retained much of its character and is a charming village to potter around. There is evidence that a settlement has existed here since the Iron Age, but the present name dates from around the Saxon era in the 7th Century. Bampton is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.
 
Street Fair – takes place on Mayday Bank Holiday Monday
The Great Shirt Race – Saturday of Spring Bank Holiday. Teams of 2 (dressed in nightshirts) race through the village, either in prams or wheelbarrows, stopping at the various pubs – hilarious to watch!
Morris Dancing – there can’t be many villages that have 3 world renowned Morris dance teams. On the Monday of Spring Bank Holiday, the teams start at 7.00am and continue throughout the day. Do try the “Fertility Cake” which is carried around the streets with the dancers.

Buckland, Oxfordshire
A pretty village of under 300 inhabitants just 1½ miles from The Trout Inn. Plenty of thatched cottages and large Georgian Houses, a quintessential English village.

Witney, Oxfordshire
A thriving market town, world famous for its blankets the town dates back to AD969, it has a wide selection of individual stores and shops. At the centre is a large green with the impressive St Mary’s church (1243AD) dominating the town.

A charming Cotswold village with the River Windrush running through. A wonderful selection of fine individual shops and stores, with many antique shops. A very pleasant village to spend a few hours.

Kelmscott Manor
Lechlade, Gloucestershire
Kelmscott is a Grade 1 listed Tudor farmhouse, famed as the summer home of William Morris, founder of the Arts and Crafts movement. The house contains an outstanding collection of furniture, textiles and wallpaper. The beautiful gardens are open during the summer.

Buscot Park
Faringdon,Oxfordshire
A National Trust property, the house is home to The Faringdon Collection, an impressive array of paintings, furniture and objets d’art. There is an exquisite garden including a water garden and an impressive walled garden. The estate supplies the Trout Inn with soft fruit and berries in season.
